I aM Adventurous

Walhalla

A surprise day out in beautiful sunshine  we headed toward Walhalla, stopping first at Thomson Station, part of the historical steam train line.  After a quick wander and a few photos we continued to our destination.  I was so delighted to see one of the local lyrebirds scratching around on the side of the road, pity Ian missed seeing it.  Once at Walhalla we found an Info board and grabbed a map.  A pleasant walk up the hill to the Mine Tour passing old buildings, some rebuilt after the great fire of 1888 (a fact I learnt at the old CFA building).  We continued back to the carpark along the Tramway Trail, the beginning of The Australian Alps Walking Track.  A few more lyrebirds and 90 minutes and we’d seen the whole town from both the road and from high above.  After lunch, which we bought from home, we wandered the old cemetery.   It’s very steep with many original graves dating back to the 1870s.  A pretty town for a quick visit.
